Glencoed
is a stone built traditional Welsh Cottage dating from the early 18th
century with alterations carried out in the early 1950’s and the late
1980’s.
The original building is still as it would have been when originally built
with its inglenook fireplaces and exposed oak beamed ceilings.
The cottage is located in one acre of its own grounds adjacent to the
Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, and approximately ten
minutes walk from the world famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct built by Thomas
Telford.
The Offas Dyke footpath also runs immediately passed the cottage and we
are within easy walking distance of some of the best remaining examples of
the Dyke.
We are situated on a small loop road some 200 yards from the A5 road
outside the village of Froncysyllte, five miles from the town of
Llangollen which is renowned for its International Musical Eisteddfod, and
two miles from the town of Chirk with is famous castle. Chirk Castle has
been continuously occupied to this day by the Myddelton family for some
800 years, and one of the most popular National Trust Sites providing an
insight into life in this area for many hundreds of years.
The city of Chester accessible by car, train and bus, is also within easy
reach – some twenty minutes by car with its fine examples of
architecture and structures dating back to the Roman occupancy of Great
Britain.
We
take considerable pride in our garden which extends to the side of the
Llangollen Canal giving visitors the opportunity to sit and enjoy the
tranquility of our Welsh Countryside.
The accommodation which we offer is as follows:-
“The Cottage Room”. This is a bedroom with double bed, wash hand
basin, and tea and coffee making facilities. It has its own lounge
equipped with colour T.V. There is also a private bathroom with bath, wash
hand basin, toilet and bidet. These rooms occupy one of the original
cottages dating back to the early 18th century.
Bedroom 2. This is a bedroom with double bed, wash hand basin, tea/coffee
making facilities and colour TV, adjacent to a private bathroom equipped
with shower, toilet, and wash hand basin.
Bedroom 3. This is a bedroom with twin beds, and wash hand basin. This
room will only be let in conjunction with bedroom two as it shares the
bathroom facilities.
Bedrooms two and three occupy an area of the cottage which is self
contained and ideal for a family or friends travelling together.
Dining Room.
The dining room occupies one of the traditional oak beamed rooms within
the original building where a hearty Welsh breakfast is served at times to
suit your convenience.
We
have ample car parking and are happy for our visitors to leave their cars
while they explore the surrounding area by train, boat, or on foot.
Day tours of North & Mid Wales and the English counties of Cheshire
and Shropshire can be arranged on an escorted basis for groups not
exceeding four adults by ourselves in a 4 x 4, affording excellent
visibility of the countryside and allowing the driver in your party to
fully enjoy the scenery through which we pass. Routes and itineraries to
be arranged in consultation with yourselves.
The cost of these tours, because of the flexibility of their nature would
be quoted upon agreement of your specific requirements.
Glencoed is in the ownership of Derek and Rosemary Hughes. We have both
taken early retirement having been involved in the security industry for
over 20 years.
We have had the pleasure of meeting people from all parts of the world,
i.e. Bulgaria, Poland, Belarus, Hawaii, Australia, America, South Africa
to name but a few.
We enjoy meeting people and look forward to your visit.
If travelling from abroad arrangements can be make to meet our visitors at
Manchester International Airport should this be required, or local train
or bus stations.
